Editorial Standards

Sourcing & verification

Every factual claim must be connected to a primary source in the editorial record. Where a primary source cannot establish the full claim, the article must say what is known, who reported the remaining information, and what could not be independently verified.

We prefer official documents, on-the-record statements, published data, and direct observation. When we rely on another outlet's reporting, we name that outlet and link to it where possible.

Attribution & quotation

Quotations must reproduce the speaker's meaning accurately and be attributed to a named speaker and the original record whenever available. Partial quotations may not omit context that changes their meaning; omissions and translations must be made clear. Paraphrases must be attributed with the same care as direct quotations.

News, analysis & forecasts

Language must distinguish confirmed facts from information that is merely reported, the newsroom's analysis, and any forward-looking forecast. These categories must never be presented as interchangeable.

Independence

Silent Dossier is independently owned and self-funded. It has no outside investors and no affiliation with any government, political party, movement or ideology. We do not accept payment, gifts, or favours in exchange for coverage, and we do not publish sponsored content presented as reporting. Any advertising on the site is served by third parties and is kept separate from editorial decisions.

Images

Every image carries a caption and a credit. Illustrations are always labelled as illustrations and are never presented as photographs of real events. We do not alter news photographs in ways that change what they show.

Original illustrations and graphics are © Silent Dossier and may not be reused without permission. To request permission, please contact us. Third-party images remain under their owners' licences, as credited.

Updates & corrections

Articles show when they were published and when they were last meaningfully updated. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly and the correction stays attached to the article. See our corrections policy for how errors are reported, reviewed, and fixed.

Bylines

Articles are published under the byline of Lucas Vane, Director and Chief Editor, who is responsible for their accuracy. Work by outside contributors, if published, is clearly marked as such.
